General:

The role of the Contributing Writer/Copy Editor is to support the Editorial department in a variety of writing tasks ranging from copy editing to creative writing. This position requires flexibility, a kid-friendly writing approach and a keen eye for continuity and character voice.

Responsibilities:

Work with Editorial team and other Production team members to provide written copy when required.
Maintain internal continuity documentation for Editorial team. Work with Archives to provide written copy for internal reference documentation.
Proofread and fact-check written copy to ensure consistency and continuity is maintained through various departments.
Select and edit user-generated content for publication on an ongoing basis.

Qualifications:

BA English, Education or Arts
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
Web design experience an asset
Fluent in English

Skills and Abilities:

Create quality editorial content quickly.
Proven ability to meet deadlines on ongoing basis.
Above average understanding of English language and can apply it in fast-paced, dynamic and professional work environment.
Handles multiple assignments simultaneously with ease.
Proven passion for communicating and writing for a young audience.
Proven copyediting skills. Demonstrates strong understanding of technique and skills required..
Self-motivated and attentive with high attention to detail.
Demonstrates knowledge toward web writing.
Works well in a collaborative environment.
Can distill and communicate complex concepts with high amount of detail in a simple, accessible way.
