The Association currently employs more than 100 full and part time staff and benefits from the contributions of more than 100 volunteers. The Association has developed a 2009 Strategic Plan in anticipation of significant growth over the next 24 months. With the operation of the new H20 Adventure and Fitness Centre, a new childcare centre at Okanagan College and an expansion of the Kelowna Family Y planned for 2009 - 2010, we expect our staff and volunteer resources to increase by more than 125%.

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Finance and Administration the Accounting Associate is responsible for the maintenance and processing of the entire organization’s accounts payable and accounts receivable function. Performing general accounting functions in relation to account reconciliations, government filing and reporting, required monthly journal entries, and the compilation of departmental statistical data will also be a requirement while adhering to existing company policies and controls.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accounts payable and cheque preparation, processing, and applicable filing
  • Processing of scheduled multiple monthly membership and childcare payment transmissions
  • Recording and collection of any outstanding AR payments and applicable system procedures including potential uncollectible account adjustments
  • Monthly reconciliations of AR, AP and defined balance sheet accounts
  • Assists with month end close and year end audit and prepares adjusting journal entries as required
  • Compilation of statistical data for departments as required
  • Childcare subsidy filing and applicable cash application
  • Quarterly childcare financial assistance review and adjustments
  • GST/PST filing and corresponding entries
  • Back up for payroll preparation and processing and other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 – 3 years of relevant experience
  • Relevant post-secondary education
  • Enrollment in a recognized accounting designation program considered an asset
  • Payroll processing experience considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Microsoft Office and integrated business software experience required
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Satisfactory criminal record check

Compensation:

  • The Y offers a comprehensive compensation package which includes benefits, membership, and pension plan.
